Through the Eyes of a Food Judge at the World Food Championships

by Heather Tallman  Last November I traveled to Las Vegas, for the first time, to serve as a judge at the World Food Championships. I was asked late in the summer to attend and judge the sandwich and dessert categories- so of course I said yes! For the last 4-5 years I have judged countless food events in Indiana from cocktail contests to maple syrup recipe contests, BBQ to bacon.

Max Silvestri, Gail Simmons & Marcus Samuelsson to Host The Feed on the New FYI Network

by Hillary DixlerBig news for food television: A+E Networks has announced the launchof FYI, a new network focusing on "personal creativity" and "adventurous approach to viewers' taste, space, look, journey and more." The network will debut on July 7, and has already greenlighted six original series and has two pilots in development, as first noted by the Hollywood Reporter. The slate includes programs featuring Gail Simmons, Marcus Samuelsson, Max Silvestri, as well asTiffany Derry, Jeffrey Saad, and the Epic Meal Time crew. Among the new series is a "part road show, part buddy comedy, part talk show" called The Feed, starring Top Chef judge Gail Simmons, NYC chef and The Taste judge Marcus Samuelsson, and comedian and Eater's former Top Chef recapper Max Silvestri. Together the hosts will "anchor a rollicking adventure into the creative world of cooking, food trends and food culture in America." Says Silvestri: "It is high-time Hollywood cashed in on my appeal among upscale women in their early 40s." The guys behind YouTube's Epic Meal Time will be getting their own series, fittingly called The Epic Meal Show. The premise is similar to the team's YouTube videos, featuring recipes that are "visually mind-blowing spins on food preparation and presentation." Presumably there will be lots of junk food and bacon.
