Meet the World’s Most Loveable Four-Year-Old Chef
The World Food Championships (WFC), which is the largest Food Sport event in the world, will take place in just a few short weeks at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. While over 1,500 chefs are busy creating more than 8,000 dishes for 450 WFC EAT certified judges to taste and score in the hopes of taking home a share of the $350,000 worth of prizes, Food Fans will be able to enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities. One of the main draws at the 7th annual WFC will be the live cooking demos performed by Food Champs that will happen every day of the event.
One demo that is sure to warm the hearts and taste buds of foodies will be performed by four-year-old Asher Baucom. He may be the youngest cook at the five-day tournament, but that won’t stop him from showing off his culinary skills for all to see. Asher, who has Down Syndrome, discovered his love and flare for cooking by helping his mom in the kitchen. K’Anna Baucom, Asher’s mom, shared with WFC that her son’s tenacity and survivor attitude teaches others about compassion, patience and determination.
“There will be over 30 cooking demos that will take place throughout the tournament. We want to help educate the public on unique recipes, and techniques in the culinary world that they can take and try at home,” said Mike McCloud, President/CEO of WFC. “We are so excited for Asher to share his passion and love for cooking alongside our WFC Ambassador Nancy Manlove.”
Long-time Food Sport competitor, culinary chef and WFC Ambassador Nancy Manlove shared her thoughts on getting to work with the loveable chef at this year’s main event in November.
“This nana chef is super excited to get the opportunity to be little chef Asher’s sous chef during the 2018 World Food Championships. My grandson Miles, who also has Down Syndrome, has made my family and friends more aware that a disability is not a limitation for life; and just like Asher, Miles also excels in many things,” said Manlove. “We need to remember that the world is made up of all kinds of people and I am happy that we are not all alike, because what a boring place this would be! I applaud Asher’s parents and family members for making sure he can do just about anything in life with selective training, therapy, and support. He is doing things that bring smiles to our world, one step at a time and I can’t wait for everyone at WFC to experience it.”
You can catch the aspiring kid chef performing a live cooking demo alongside Manlove on the MAXIMUS Truck stage on Saturday, November 10 at 1:30 PM CDT. Click here to see the line-up of featured cooking demos and events.
