Hormel Chili Nation Challenge Winners Announced!
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (September 14, 2016) – The Hormel #ChiliNation Challenge on Instagram brought in some of the hottest recipes yet! We thank our friends at Hormel Foods for partnering with us on this contest, and also for lowering chili competitor’s entry fees.
After looking through multiple entries on Instagram, the judges deliberated and nailed-down three Chili Champs moving on to the World Open Chili Championships! Congrats to the following winners!
Coming in first place is Alex Tanalski with the creation of “Grass Fed Braised Beef Chili with Guajillo.” Worthy of waived entry and a $500 travel stipend, the winning dish featured sustainable grass fed braised beef cheeks in Hormel Chili and Guajillo Sauce. The cheeks are set atop red and white bean chili topped with cilantro lime pesto, fresh sharp cheddar cheese, sprinkled with toasted cured Guanciale bits, and finished with a Serrano/Avocado lime-blended crema.
In second place is Kathi Hemmer with her “Burnt Brisket Ends and Bacon Chili.” This recipe featured delicious, melt-in-your-mouth BBQ brisket burnt ends, Hormel Black Label Applewood Bacon, a variety of roasted peppers, and three kinds of beans!
The third place dish, “Sweet and Spicy Turkey Chili,” was created by Elizabeth Johnston Kraatz. This unique chili dish was made with sweet corn, chopped dates, molasses, brown sugar, cayenne, and sriracha.

For those of you still looking to qualify for WFC 2016, make sure to enter the ongoing Red Gold “Bring Your ‘Wich to the Sand” Online Recipe Contest by Monday, September 19th at 11:59pm!
