Zac Brown’s Southern Ground and WFC Team Up for the Ultimate Food Sport and Football Tailgate

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (October 14, 2016) – The World Food Championships and Zac Brown’s Southern Ground are bringing football fans and Food Sport fanatics the coolest tailgate in Orange Beach this November. Which means YES, Auburn and Alabama fans can catch ALL the action in one place by attending the “Southern Ground Tailgate” at WFC.

The Southern Ground Tailgate isn’t your average tailgate. In fact, it requires 18 wheels and it’s even got a name, “Cookie.” It features all your favorite game activities like corn hole and four square, but it also comes with a custom-built commercial kitchen that can host chef throwdowns and culinary demos.

“We’re excited to welcome Cookie to our 5th Anniversary!” commented Mike McCloud, CEO of World Food Championships. “Cookie is a true experiential, culinary rig, one that combines the best of both worlds - sports and Food Sport - onto one stage.”

Cookie will be on site at WFC from Nov 10-13th, where attendees, competitors, and judges can check out the big rig and find other Southern Ground merchandise such as cookbooks, knives, jewelry, and more.

Cookie was customized for Zac Brown’s unique “Eat & Greet” experiences for the band’s fan club, known as “Zamily.” Cookie is operated by Chef Rusty Hamlin and his crew, and they focus on locally sourced, Southern gourmet cooking in all of their farm-fresh creations.

Southern Ground Executive Chef Rusty Hamlin, will also make a special appearance at WFC as a Celebrity judge in the Top 10 of the Seafood category and also for the World Chef Challenge.

Hamlin was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and grew up steeped in Louisiana's famed culinary culture. Hamlin landed his first job as a line cook at Belle of Baton Rouge and shortly thereafter was brought in to revamp the kitchen and menu at Atlanta’s Atkins Park. Rusty is now an owner and Executive Chef of Atkins Park in Smyrna, GA, with a menu that nods to his Cajun/Creole inspirations. His success with the restaurant’s revamp led him to start a suburban satellite location of Atkins Park, this time in Atlanta, which has now seen over a decade of success.  Hamlin met Zac Brown during his time in Atlanta, where they dreamed up the idea for the Zac Brown Band “Eat & Greet.”
