United States Coast Guard Returns to World Food Championships as Military Gateway Partner

Indianapolis, IN – The World Food Championships (WFC), the world’s largest Food Sport competition focused on everyday cooking categories, announced today that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) will be returning to Kitchen Arena at this year’s event taking place November 8-12 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center in Indianapolis.  This will be the second consecutive year that the USCG will serve as an “Official Military Gateway Partner”.

The partnership includes ten (10) Golden Tickets to represent the branch’s culinary program in this year’s annual cooking festivities. At the 2023 World Food Championships, the Coast Guard placed four members of their culinary team in the Finals and sent one individual, Soup Champion Scott Lockhart, to compete at the Final Table event this past March in Bentonville, Arkansas. In addition, the Unted States Coast Guard team was crowned the winners of the first annual Military Challenge.

Since 1790, the Coast Guard has safeguarded the American people and promoted national security, border security, and economic prosperity in a complex and evolving maritime environment. The Coast Guard is the principal Federal agency responsible for maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship in U.S. ports and inland waterways, along more than 95,000 miles of U.S. coastline, throughout the 4.5 million square miles of U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and on the high seas. The over 50,000 members of the Coast Guard operate a multi-mission, interoperable fleet of 259 Cutters, 200 fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, and over 1,600 boats. The USCG saves those in peril and protects the Nation from all maritime threats.

“The Coast Guard and WFC recognize that teamwork is the most critical component in achieving success,” stated Mike McCloud, Founder of World Food Championships. “Our appreciation for their efforts in keeping us safe each and every day does not go unnoticed. We are equally impressed with the skills that members of the Coast Guard team continue to demonstrate in the broader community and in the heat of our Kitchen Arena against the top culinary champions from across the globe.”

Since its debut in 2012, WFC has amassed a tremendous worldwide following, providing a one-of-a-kind culinary experience at its events, as well as numerous live and made-for-TV shows. In addition to popularizing competitive cooking, the WFC platform has had an undeniable impact on the food industry, facilitating the creation of more than 10,000 new dishes and supporting communities via partnerships with various local non-profits, charities, and food banks throughout the United States. In short, the WFC platform has given birth to “Food Sport” by providing a level playing field, a fair judging system, innovative culinary programming, ambassador opportunities, TV visibility and a process that allows talented culinary teams to compete in ways never seen. Thousands of cook teams vie for a Golden Ticket at official qualifying events throughout the year to secure a place in the WFC 2024.
