COMPETITOR

Redneck Scientific

HEAD COOK: Jerry Stephenson Jr.

COMPETITION: World Barbecue Championship

QUALIFYING EVENT: Blue Ridge BBQ Festival - Tryon, NC

Redneck Scientific; we are part-time connoisseurs of fine barbequed meat and full-time BBQ Evangelists. There is nothing we love more than food, friends, family and gathering folks together to enjoy all three. So, naturally, competing in professional bbq contests became another outlet to "Spread the Gospel of Barbeque...One plate at a time" Redneck Scientific started competing on the KCBS circuit in the Fall of 2011. Since then, the team has walked in almost every competition and brought home multiple top five or higher overall wins. Head Pitmaster, Jerry Stephenson, Jr., grew up in eastern North Carolina, and, rumor has it, was born next to a pig cooker. He learned to cook whole hog at an early age and came to appreciate not only the fine taste of eastern N.C. pulled pork, but the camaraderie and fellowship that come with standing around a pit. He founded Redneck Scientific in 2010 and quickly became engaged in the KCBS world of pork, chicken, brisket and ribs. Husband and wife friends, Brian and Shannon Turner, rounded out the Redneck Scientific official Field Staffers. The team has traveled across North Carolina, down to Georgia, and up into Virginia and Pennsylvania earning walks and ribbons along the way. Jerry creates his own sauces and rubs and cooks on 55-gallon drum smokers. Redneck Scientific smokers are handcrafted in North Carolina by the Redneck Scientific Field Staffers www.RedneckSci.com @RedneckSci
