My culinary background started when I was 9 years old. My mom taught me how to read a recipe. It was the beginning of a lifelong adventure. My grandmother and my aunties were huge influences on me growing up. My grandmother never wrote a recipe down nor did she follow a recipe. When I wanted a recipe from her, she had to tell it to me while I wrote it down. My aunties also had a huge influence on me while growing up. When they got together, they would talk about the latest recipes that would appear in the latest magazines or grocery store publications. I could not wait until I was old enough to take Home Ec classes in school. I enrolled in Junior High and High School. I entered my first cooking contest at the age of 18. I lost that contest, however, I was hooked . I have been entering cooking contests for the last 30 something years. I am as hooked now as I was then.
My husband and 3 kids have put up with my cooking phases. I have gone thru a cookie phase, a caramel apple phase, a biscuit phase, a cinnamon roll phase, biscuit and gravy phase, swiss meringue buttercream, sriracha, and chili phase.
This last phase will be the be all end all of phases. I absolutely cannot wait !
