Chef Devan, a Southern California native with deep roots in the Louisiana/Mississippi Delta, exemplifies the essence of Southern hospitality and charm. From a young age, Devan was always drawn to the kitchen, suggesting seasoning adjustments and learning the rich, well-seasoned layers of coastal southern flavors from his mother and grandmothers. His culinary journey truly began after his freshman year at Morehouse College when he helped his mother open a restaurant, sparking his passion for creating unique flavor combinations. Devan’s college experience was also deeply influenced by the Morehouse 5 Wells of Leadership, which continue to shape his culinary style: Well-Dressed: His dishes are not only delicious but also visually appealing. Well-Spoken: Each dish tells a story of cultural heritage and culinary innovation. Well-Read: His techniques are refined, showcasing his deep culinary knowledge. Well-Traveled: The diversity of his dishes reflects the cultural melting pot of his Southern Californian upbringing and his travels. Well-Balanced: His creations achieve a harmony of flavors that satisfy the soul. After moving to Phoenix and longing for the communal festivities of his youth, Devan founded The Good Food Table, a dining experience designed to bring people together through food. This venture blends his love for community, culture, and music into a unique environment where guests can forge relationships and enjoy soul-nourishing meals. Inspired by the fresh bounty of each season and enriched by his travel experiences, Devan’s culinary expressions aim to deliver joy and memorable experiences, reaffirming his belief that food made with love is a source of unparalleled joy.
