HEAD COOK: Lois Spruytte
COMPETITION: Bacon World Championship
Lois is a self taught amateur baker/cook. She first started entering contests in her State, which is the great state of Michigan back in 2009. In 2011 Lois won 1st place for the Michigan Apple best apple pie in Michigan. That win gave Lois the confidence to enter the Pie National contest that the Ameican Pie Council holds each year in Florida. In 2013 Lois won 3rd place in the innovation category at pie nationals. Her pie was called Avocado Dream Pie. It is one of the recipes in a hardcover cookbook called Americas best pies. The cookbook is a labor of love from Linda Hoskins who is the director of the American Pie Council.
In 2018 Lois took another 3rd place ribbon at pie national with her Darn Clucking Good chicken pot pie.
Lois has also traveled to Whidby Island in the Pacific Northwest to attend Kate McDermotts Art of the Pie, Pie Camp.
Through the years Lois has won other awards in Michigan for baking and onsite cooking. Lois creates all of her recipes from scratch. Once an idea pops in her head, she will develop flavor profiles then start the testing process. Many of her friends and coworkers love it when they see Lois bringing in a container of the latest creation.
In 2017 Lois qualified for her first World Food Championships as a 2nd place winner for Michigan with the Taste of America online contest. She competed in the bacon category.
This year Lois is very excited to return to WFC as the Michigan Taste of America 1st place winner. She is looking forward to competing in the dessert category. Her family and friends are ready to increase their waistlines during research and development for the 2018 World Food Championships.
Lois has enjoyed the the path of her culinary journey and is looking forward to the path becoming well traveled.
