COMPETITOR

Pit Bulls Up in smoke

HEAD COOK: Danny Coogle

COMPETITION: World Barbecue Championship

QUALIFYING EVENT: Bloomin' BBQ & Bluegrass - Sevierville, TN

Pit Bulls “Up In Smoke” began professionally competing in KCBS back in 2010. Danny and Rebecca Coogle, out of Kennesaw, GA decided to take a leap of faith and see what the world of competition barbecue had to offer them. Choosing to take the leap into professional barbeque versus starting out in back yard was not a difficult decision. Danny is an all or nothing kind of guy – we jumped in feet first and went for it. In less than two years time, Pit Bulls “Up In Smoke” has taken home many accolades in professional barbecue competition across the Southeast, including five Grand Championships and two Reserve Grand Championships in 2012 alone. The team has taken numerous top five placements including “Perfect 180” scores in our Brisket and Pork categories. We are currently among the top 25 KCBS barbecue teams in the world sitting 3rd in our Pork and 19th in our Brisket. Since beginning the competition barbecue journey, we have strived for perfection continuing to practice and improve our cooks. There is always room for improvement and perfection is always a work in progress. While it only took us two years to reach a pretty respectable status in the pro barbecue world, we came to a realization that anyone could do it with a little help and guidance. Danny began the Pit Bulls Online BBQ School, a cutting edge concept for folks that are anxious to get out and compete (& win) against the pros. The school is strictly online with videos, spreadsheets, recipes, and other valuable information that every cook needs to be the best. The cutting edge concept is that each student gets unlimited access to the classes and can even refer to it, if need be, at a competition. Danny loves barbecue and enjoys sharing the love he has for the sport with others just as passionate. We have also had the opportunity to begin selling our very own rubs and seasonings that have also helped bring us the numerous awards our team has to its name. The rubs are available for sale online and have done very well for us and others. Of course, none of this would be possible without our terrific sponsors who have supported our team all the way. Moore’s Marinade and Royal Oak Charcoal have sponsored our team over the past two years and we believe and trust in their amazing products (which we use for competition religiously.) We recently became sponsored by Deep South Smokers, makers of the first dual chamber smoker which we currently use for competition – it is an amazing piece of equipment that brought us a Grand Championship the very first time we ever used it this year. A special “thank you” goes out to our Sponsors for making our trip to the World Food Championship in Las Vegas a reality. We couldn’t do it with you. ~ Danny & Rebecca Coogle, Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" - Kennesaw, GA
