One-Eyed Betty's

HEAD COOK: Emmele Herrold

COMPETITION: World Burger Championship

QUALIFYING EVENT: Detroit Burger Brawl

I have been cooking for as long as I can remember. I learned the love of cooking from my mother, who was always just a bit more culinarily creative and skilled than all of the other people I knew. I started cooking professionally just out of college, catering parties and getting my name out there. I opened a restaurant in Colorado in my early twenties, and knew then that the restaurant business is what I was meant to do! My life took me in all sorts of directions but cooking was always a constant. Cooking to me, has always been a way of not only expressing my artistic ability, but also to share something with my loved ones. We have always been ones to gather around the kitchen island, cooking together, laughing, dancing. Most of my favorite memories took place in a kitchen. To me, food is less about fancy french methods, and more about flavor. I have a knack for making things taste good and look beautiful; I am way less concerned about how I get there!
My good friend Beth, who I worked with for a time, knew what a passion I had for food. When Beth decided to open a new restaurant in our home town of Ferndale, MI she thought of me for the job of executive chef, thus presenting me with my dream job. We never looked back and now have a thriving business that gives us joy every day. One-Eyed Betty's is a labor of love and I cannot thank Beth enough for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to many more years of working alongside her, creating new and successful businesses, as well as watching One-Eyed Betty's continue to succeed.
