HEAD COOK:
COMPETITION: World Dessert Championship
QUALIFYING EVENT: Polish BBQ Battle (Dessert)
My passion for food started while cooking with my grandmother Tommasina “Mazie” as a small child. When other kids were outside playing, I was inside in the kitchen learning to cook and bake from scratch. From there, I started competitive cooking at the age of 16 and did so for a couple years, before taking a short break to focus on honing my skills and increasing my culinary knowledge. During this time, I regularly attended baking demos, took baking and pastry class which lead to making custom cakes and specialty desserts for a growing clientele.
In 2002, my fire for competitive cooking was reignited when I discovered the BBQ competition circuit. After a becoming a certified BBQ judge, I decided to jump back into cooking. In 2010, I started a competitive BBQ team and named it appropriately after my grandmother – A Mazie Q. In 2012, A Mazie Q went from the smaller 2 category competitions into the bigger 4 – 8 category competitions. After placing in the top 10 for dessert in 3 competitions - 6th, 3rd and 1st with a perfect score, A Mazie Q established us as the team to beat in the dessert category. We earned runner up for rookie team of the year.
Our 2012 success carried over to 2013, coming in first place in every dessert category entered and including another perfect score. This year we’ve been successful in coming in 3rd place overall, Reserve Grand and 2 Grand Championships.
Our first place score in the dessert category at the Polish BBQ battle was not only the highest score in any category for the contest, but also qualified A Mazie Q for the World Food Championships.
