Of all the types of food to get someone interested in cooking competitions, mine was Spam. I entered the contest on a lark and was very confident. I lost, but my longtime enthusiasm for cooking and entertaining was now fueled by the thrill of competing and possibly winning. From small town pie contests to big national cookoffs, I have spent the past five years enjoying the process of cooking and plating and waiting for the next win.
