The World Food Championships is the premier Food Sport competition on the planet — a multi-day live culinary battle where the world's best cooks compete for food, fame, and fortune.
The World Food Championships (WFC) is the premier food sport competition globally. This multi-day, live culinary event showcases some of the world's best cooks competing for food, fame, and fortune across ten categories: Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chef, Dessert, Live Fire, Noodle, Sandwich, Seafood, and Vegetarian.
Each year, thousands of teams vie for a coveted Golden Ticket at 800+ official international qualifiers to earn their spot at WFC. Since its debut in 2012, the event has attracted participants from nearly 40 countries and every state in the U.S.
WFC is Food Sport's version of March Madness — with a pinch of the Olympics and a heavy dose of The Big Game. With a $400,000+ prize purse, this is not for the faint hearted. The heat in Kitchen Arena is intense.
WFC invented the term "Food Sport" — a competitive cooking format that gives amateurs and professionals an equal platform to compete for real prize money under standardized rules. Think of it as the Olympics of cooking, where anyone who qualifies can compete.
WFC's proprietary scoring system allows every competition dish — across all 10 categories — to be judged consistently on the same three criteria. Developed by co-founder Larry Oliphant and refined over 10+ years, it's the fairest judging system in competitive cooking.
Did the dish come together as intended? Did the cook successfully accomplish what their recipe describes? Does the entry meet the specific requirements of its category? Judges evaluate whether technique, timing, and preparation were executed at a championship level.
Is it pleasing to the eye? Does it look appetizing? Does the visual presentation match the category's expectations? All WFC entries are submitted on silver platters — every element of the presentation is considered, from plating balance to color contrast to structural integrity.
Is it pleasing to the taste buds? Does it make you want to eat more? Is there a balanced, intentional flavor profile? Taste is the most heavily weighted criterion — it's the heart of Food Sport. Certified judges score each entry blind, with the lowest score dropped.
Since 2012, WFC has amassed a worldwide following, providing one-of-a-kind culinary experiences at live events and through numerous television appearances. The WFC platform has had an undeniable impact on the food industry — facilitating the creation of more than 10,000 new dishes and supporting communities through partnerships with local non-profits, charities, and food banks throughout the United States.
In its third year, the WFC generated a $15 million economic and publicity impact on Las Vegas alone. Today, as WFC expands globally into the Middle East and beyond, that economic and cultural impact multiplies with every new event.
WFC has also brought powerful platforms to the main stage for both future culinary stars and military Veterans. Through the WFC Junior and Military Challenge events, WFC has provided countless opportunities and culinary experiences to build community and provide much-needed therapy for those who may need it most.
WFC competitors come from nearly 40 countries and every U.S. state. Official qualifying events span from Hawaii to Dubai, Korea to Canada — and the network is growing every year.
