COMPETITOR

Serious Hog Competition BBQ Team

HEAD COOK: Lisa Rooks

COMPETITION: World Soup Championship

My passion for cooking and baking began in High School Hoe Economics Class and from cooking with my mother and Great Aunts who were all phenomenal southern cooks. Watching episodes of Season 1 of BBQ Pitmasters inspired us to form Serious Hog Competition BBQ team in 2013. We entered a small local contest, placed 3rd overall and were hooked on competition BBQ. Competing in the World Food Championship and winning the World Chili Championship Open in 2021 sparked a passion for food competitions outside of BBQ. In 2022, we won Grand Champion for chili in the service area of a local Porsche, won 1st place homestyle and chicken chili at a local VFW comp, and finished 4th overall in an online nationwide search for Pioneer's 1st Gravy Guru for my homemade chicken pot pie and tied for first in Dessert, with a perfect score - 180 and won the People’s Choice Award for pork at the KCBS BBQ Throwdown. AT the 2022 and 2023 World Chili Championship Open we continued to serve award winning chili, placing 2nd both years. In 2023, we won 1st place Anything Wampler’s Sausage at the High on the Hog KCBS Competitor Series, Placed 2nd Overall at the Alabama CASI State Championship, Place 2nd in ribs at the KCBS Competitor Series; Dr. George Smith BBQ Brawl, and 4th in Anything Butt at The Robertson County BBQ Throwdown (KCBS Competitor Series).
