QUALIFYING EVENT: Great Lenexa BBQ Battle - Lenexa, KS
Armed with the motto “Start the day slow and taper off from there”. This fine band of merry men would be considered the underdog in any competition let alone the World Food Championships.
Banished from their families 15 years ago these transients have come together and bonded over vodka, barbeque and bad music to become one incredibly average BBQ team. The city of Kansas City was in shock as these boys earned an invitation to the World Food Championships by beating 184 teams and winning Grand Champion at the Great Lenexa BBQ Battle. After awards chief cook Frank Lichtenauer rallied his team by saying “Today I feel like a winner but I know we’ll head to Vegas as the underdog because no one believes in us and our Kingfisher. I say heck with those superstars, talk to me about what the backyard bbq’er wants and that’s to believe the underdog still has a chance! People want to see the underdog win and this is our chance to win the pretty girl's heart while we're in Vegas.”
