QUALIFYING EVENT: BBQ Capital Cook Off - Lexington, NC


Charlie & Jo Ann Welch have been competing in the KCBS since 2004 & started their own team in 2006 - Screamin Nite Hog BBQ.  The team has won numerous awards including the 1st H.O.G. NC State Grand Champion, Bikes Boogie & BBQ sponsored  by Carolina Harley Davidson; Grand Champion of the Eastern Carolina BBQ Throwdown, Rocky Mount, NC; & Reserve Grand Champion at the BBQ Tarheel Championship competition with 90 teams in Shelby, NC. In 2010, Larry & Janet Glascoe joined the team & started vending/catering with Screamin Nite Hog BBQ.  In 2012, the team members opened a restaurant with award winning BBQ, ribs, chicken & brisket in King, NC called Pig Shack. Currently the Screamin Nite Hog BBQ Team is the 2012 Grand Champion of the BBQ Capital Cookoff, in Lexington, NC which is the qualifying event for Las Vegas. The city is renowned for its heritage of slow cooking pork shoulders over hickory wood that is known worldwide as Lexington-style barbecue.   The 2nd annual Cookoff had 55 teams competing, including the Tongmasters from Australia, competing for $15,900.  The competition also hosted the taping of the season finale of Pitmasters.  Plans are underway for the 3rd Annual contest on April 26-27, 2013 (www.uptownlexington.com).
