QUALIFYING EVENT: FoodChamp Challenge - PastaMy love of cooking began when I was in Second grade and entered my first contest - an apple pie contest at the Johnny Appleseed Festival in Fort Wayne, IN. My mom taught me how to make the pie, homemade crust and all. Then she made me do it all by myself. I won that contest, beating home cooks decades older than me. Throughout my childhood I was surrounded by amazing home cooks and I soaked up all I could learn. One of my biggest influences was my grandmother, a farmer’s wife that cooked huge meals every day, all from scratch, and of course my mother. Speaking of my mother, she is also a competitor in the Pasta Competition at the World Food Championship. We shall see who comes out ahead…teacher or student!
