Music City sends seven competitors to World Food Championships

Seven local cooks will soon head for Las Vegas in a battle for the best: the World Food Championships.

These seven are among more than 400 competitors on their way to Las Vegas Nov. 12-18, where each will compete tournament-style in one of nine categories: barbecue, chili, burger, sandwich, recipe, dessert, bacon, pasta and seafood.

Local competitors are Todd Beaird of Lebanon’s Blue Moon BBQ and blogger Melissa Corbin for dessert, House of Q BBQ competitor Russ Lannom for barbecue, burger master Mark Medlin for sandwich, chef Carlos Garcia of Puckett’s Boathouse for seafood, David Calkins of Burger Republic for burger and Hal Holden-Bache of Lockeland Table for the chef challenge.

Each participant will compete in a category. The winners of the category competitions will create one final dish in their respective categories at the Final Table. The winner of the Final Table challenge will be named World Food Champion and receive $300,000.
