Best Burger in Chicago Headed to Vegas
Wade Fortin, winner of the Bull Burger Battle in Carol Stream, has secured a coveted qualifying position to compete amongst the best cooks and chefs in the world at the second annual World Food Championships. The World Food Championships, boasting a $300,000 prize purse, will be held Nov. 7-10 in Las Vegas.
The Bull Burger Battle – Carol Stream, which took place at American Sale, is the fifth and final competition of the Bull Burger Battle series. The series qualified the best burger cooks in five local markets to compete in the ultimate competition for food supremacy at the World Food Championships. By winning the Bull Burger Battle, Wade Fortin also took home a premium Bull Outdoor Angus grill ($2500 ARV) and a free trip to Las Vegas to compete in the World Burger Championship at the World Food Championships in November.
The World Burger Championship will feature 50 of the world’s best burger cooks, chefs and restaurants all competing for their share of the competition’s total prize purse of $25,000. The winner of the World Burger Championship will take home a check for $10,000 and compete against six other category champions at the World Food Championships’ Final Table for a shot at an additional $50,000.
“The opportunity to compete in an event as large as the World Food Championships is a huge accomplishment,” said Mike McCloud, President and CEO of Trybe Targeting, the company producing the World Food Championships. “Wade will now get a chance to represent Bull Outdoor Products and all of the greater Chicago area against more than 400 world-class cooks and chefs. This is truly a great honor!”
Wade Fortin, a resident of Bowmanville, is the Food Service Director and Executive Chef for Aramark at Nuveen Investments. Fortin boasts a near 20 years experience in cooking professionally and has held the position as executive sous chef for Medinah Country Club and executive chef for JP Morgan Chase Bank. Fortin has most recently ventured in to the competitive barbeque circuit where he competes with his team, Second City Smoke.
Fortin’s winning burger, affectionately named “El Jefe Agave Bacon Cheeseburger,” is a powerhouse of boss flavors, beginning with a patty made of combined ground chuck and Ribeye. True to its name, the El Jefe burger takes on a Southwestern gusto with a bit of lime, mayonnaise and avocado spread and finally, topping the burger with glazed agave bacon.
“I was super excited to win and to get the chance to represent Chicago, the greatest city in the world, at the World Food Championships!” said Wade Fortin. “I have already started to think about a game plan of what I can bring to the grill to ensure I come home with the title of World Burger Champion, and even more, the coveted title of World Food Champion!” Fortin will compete as part of Team Bull in the World Burger Championship.
In 2013, the World Food Championships will be a tournament-style competition inclusive of several rounds leading to the all-defining moment at the Final Table where the champions from the seven competing categories will vie for the ultimate World Food Champ title in front of a panel of food celebrity judges. This year’s categories are: Barbecue, Chili, Burger, Sandwich, Dessert, Bacon and Recipe.
