“The Big Bite Bacon Fest” is new to the 2013 Fair season and with tickets starting at $55 (including Fair admission), it is sure to make the dreams of every San Diegan bacon lover come true.
The massive Del Mar Arena will be transformed into bacon paradise, to host an event that will showcase the cooking talents of some of the best chefs in the county, unlimited bacon tasting of epic “porkportions” and craft beer sampling from some of the top breweries in San Diego.
Also, still to be announced and sure to please, bacon themed entertainment. The Big Bite Bacon Fest will undoubtedly be a Father’s Day treat.
Want to compete in the Bacon recipe contest? The Big Bite Bacon Fest is the first and only bacon competition of its kind across the nation, offering cash prizes totaling $5,000 and awards for participants in a licensed food competition that’s all about — you guessed it, bacon.
Whether you are a trained chef, a home cook maven, or just have a secret bacon recipe; everyone, 18+ is invited to participate in this first ever cook-off.
Entries can be any fully prepared dish that contains bacon in the list of ingredients.
The entries will be submitted to a panel of trained food judges to be tasted and evaluated for flavor, appearance, and creativity.
Prizes and awards will be presented at the Big Bite Bacon Fest Awards ceremony at the end of the second public tasting session. Local businesses and cooks of all kinds can have an opportunity to host a booth at the event and to have a chance to sample “bacon-y” creations to a crowd of hungry bacon lovers.
Competitors may select from two contest divisions: Amateur and Professional.
The contest will be held at the Big Bite Bacon Fest on June 16 at the San Diego County Fair.
Entry fees are $39.
This is a licensed Kansas City Barbecue Society contest, and the first place winners in both divisions will receive $1,200 in cash prizes, plus a highly coveted invitation and travel stipend to compete at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada in Nov. 2013.
Second and third place winners will respectively take home $800 and $500 within each division.
