Seafood done right is hard to come by, but the latest FoodChamp Challenge proved there is a sea – ha ha – of cooks who certainly know what they’re doing! Our judges dove in head first to this category and are pleased to announce the following five champions will be headed to Las Vegas to compete in the World Seafood Championship:
Congratulations to the Grand Prize winner, Minishar! Minishar’s winning seafood recipe was the Korean Q’d Shrimp & Blistered Shishitos. Our judges, Kari Karch, Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe and Beth Peterson, simply could not get enough of this crustacean sensation!
“I’m so happy that this recipe was our big winner for the seafood category! I love me some good ole Asian flavors in just about any cuisine, but turning a New Orleans classic into a Korean delight…one word..genius! Keep up the great cooking skills and good luck in Vegas. I’ll be rooting for you!” – Kari Karch
“When I first looked at this recipe I saw a list of really tasty ingredients. That’s a great place to start a recipe. I love shrimp but they can be a little boring so a kicked up dish like this makes me happy. Trendy, spicy, great looking dish and those blistered peppers are a great accompaniment.” – Ray Lampe “Dr BBQ”
“Korean Pepper Paste, Lemon and Garlic. …. Mmmm m. Nicely done on the flavors and heat in this dish. What a tasty twist on the classic barbecued shrimp that we all know and love. Although the big ol’ delicious coated shrimps made me immediately stand-up and take notice, the blistered Shishitos sealed the deal. The combo of the peppers and the tasty Korean flavors on the shrimp made this seafood recipe a super star!”– Beth Peterson

Broiled Asian Prawn Sticks with Lime by tacardin
Here’s what Ray had to say about tacardin’s recipe:
“As a kid everybody loves fish sticks but as we mature and learn to eat good food they become that funny thing we used to eat. So why not make a grown up version? I think it’s a great idea made even better by using prawns and by broiling them. Kind of like a fun tasty party friendly shaped crab cake. Big thumbs up on this one.”

Pecan Crusted Catfish with Bacon Cider Sauteed Collard Greens and Honey Mustard Drizzle by scubachef
Here’s what Beth had to say about scubachef’s recipe:
“This dish comes into my life at an interesting point. If I would have been judging this competition a year ago, I may not have chosen this because I hadn’t really had much in the way of soul food. I’ve been lucky enough to have gotten to experience some great (and not so great) soul food this year and now I am hooked! This crispy, bacon laced, honey mustard drizzled catfish is just what I am craving these days. I love the idea of the apple cider greens and I believe you have created “Soul food meets the Michigan apple orchard” recipe, especially for this Midwesterner. Somehow, I am craving southern soul food in the midst of apple season in here in the Midwest. You’ve got me all mixed up, in a delicious way!”
