FoodChamp Challenge: Sandwich results

Stacked or open face, pressed or grilled – a winning sandwich is never just a “plain, ole sandwich.” Sandwich building is truly an art form and our judges were blown away by the entries in the latest FoodChamp Challenge contest, hosted on Kenmore’s cookmore.com. Alas, someone had to take home the big prize, so without making you wait a moment longer, we present our winners…

Congratulations to the Grand Prize winner, FromAway! FromAway’s winning sandwich was his Fried Chicken Biscuit Sandwiches with Sriracha Honey Butter. This sandwich is everything heavenly and had our judges, Kari Karch, Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe and Beth Peterson, offering a standing ovation.

“How much do I love me a fried chicken biscuit with sriracha honey butter? Let me count the ways. Seventeen. Seventeen ingredients make this dish a winner-winner chicken breakfast, lunch, or dinner! After deciding on this favorite amongst the judges, the only standing issue was to serve this tasty delight with a tall glass of milk or an ice-cold frothy brew. Well, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere right? Big congrats and see you in Las Vegas!”
– Kari Karch

“Is it a breakfast sandwich or a nice spicy lunch or a midnight snack? The answer is yes to all of those questions and that’s why I like this sandwich so much. It’s simple but covers many corners of the menu and many corners of your tongue all bundled up in a homemade biscuit. A very worthy winner.”
– Ray Lampe “Dr BBQ”

“Nothing like a little stick to your ribs (or thighs) comfort food to bring a big smile to your day.  Northern, southern either way, this tasty little biscuit is a happy bundle of love all wrapped up in a tasty sauce. The sriracha honey butter kicked this sammie into the stratosphere and made my mouth water from the word fried chicken. Great job on putting a yummy twist on this traditional hug of a sandwich. Creating sandwiches that bring traditional tastes then adding your own take will have you rocking the World Food Championships in Vegas!  Good Luck and see you in Nov.”

The following recipes were some of our judges’ favorites – and also winners of the FoodChamp Challenge:

Rasco’s Chivito by CoryRasco

Rasco

Here’s what Ray had to say about CoryRasco’s recipe:

“If this sandwich, with the quirky name really is the National sandwich of Uruguay, then I need to book a vacation there real soon. A nice steak sandwich with a couple slices of ham hidden underneath is a great start. Fresh mozzarella, chimmichurri, an egg and some bacon? Can this really be their National Sandwich? Seems more like a post drinking experiment that worked :) There was a forgotten ingredient in the heart of palm but this thing is good with or without that. Expedia here I come!”

4B Lambwich by kimlcar

berry

Here’s what Kari had to say about kimlcar’s recipe:

“You had me at cocktail creations! This sammie was my personal favorite because of the use of nontraditional ingredients. The creativity blew me away and that is why this is a judges favorite in the competition for the World Food Championships. Succulent lamb, blackberry jam, feta, and ginger beer? How many am I allowed to eat in one sitting without catching a buzz? Kudos and keep up the great work!”

Thai Curry Shrimp Po Boy by yilynne

poboy

Here’s what Beth had to say about yilynne’s recipe:

“What the heck?! With its good looks and Thai twist, how could this gorgeous sandwich not be my favorite!  They say you eat with your eyes first… I devoured this sandwich the moment I laid my eyes on it. Truth be told, I am partial to a po-boy and this one with it’s golden fried shrimp has me in love.   The flavors layered up on that roll are brilliant. It’s a triple threat with the crunch of the shrimp, the cool slaw and that fabulous twist of Thai Red Curry.  Watch out sandwich competitors, there is a genius of a flavor creator bringing serious skills to WFC 2014!”
